Published on September 7, 2012

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, hundreds of volunteers, non-profit agencies and faith groups will converge to assist Hurricane Issac recovery efforts in Madisonville,  LaPlace, and Jefferson.

Saturday’s volunteer force include representatives from Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, St. Anselm Catholic Church, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, local Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) groups, members of the Church of Latter Day Saints, First Baptist Church of Madisonville, Church of the King and Mandeville Christian Church.  They will be joined by representatives from the American Red Cross, Second Harvest Food Bank, residents of Madisonville and other volunteers from across Louisiana, Tennessee and elsewhere.

Nearly 500 volunteers will converge on Madisonville, La. to serve the Isaac-impacted community.  At St. Anselm, located at 306 St. Mary St. in Madisonville, volunteers will be receiving shipments of supplies, distributing food, cleaning supplies, water and ice as well as serving hot meals at both lunch and dinner.  Volunteers will also be dispersed to homes and properties flooded throughout Madisonville and other hard-hit Northshore areas to help residents with clean-up. Case managers and crisis counselors from Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans will be available to assist residents. The American Red Cross and the Madisonville Humane Society will also be on hand to offer support and assistance.

Through the collaborative efforts of Parish CYO groups, over a hundred youth volunteers will be assisting with various recovery projects on Saturday. This includes assisting Second Harvest Food Bank in Jefferson to help sort and portion food donations going out to Isaac-affected communities. Other youth volunteers will be headed to Ascension of Our Lord Church Parish and St. Joan of Arc Church Parish in LaPlace to help clean-up the Church grounds and also assist local seniors in removing debris from their flooded homes.

Other volunteers will also be assisting LaPlace residents in St. Joan of Arc Parish with debris removal and sorting clothing donations.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts from so many great non-profits, faith groups and volunteer groups, this day has been made possible! If you are interested in joining us for future volunteer projects like this, click here to sign up!
