Magazine Donations Needed for Independent Living Skills Program!

What to do with that old stack of magazines? DONATE THEM to our Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP)  this spring! ILSP is in need of magazine donations for a collage project for the upcoming National Youth In Transition Database Conference for New Orleans and Thibodaux in June! Foster teens will be using magazine clippings to create career themed collages at this conference. If you’d like to donate your gently used magazines for ILSP’s collage project, please contact Melisa Jacks at 504-340-5100 by May 30 ! ILSP is particularly looking for magazines with career focused imagery including news magazines, fashion magazines, home and decor magazines, outdoor magazines, etc.

ILSP life skills classes and counseling help foster care teenagers prepare for independent living after they leave their foster care home once they turn age 18. It is a 12-16 week program for teenagers in the care of the State ages 14-18 years. Life skills taught through ILSP include job skills, college prep and application assistance, social skills, values, assertive communication, decision making, money management, housing, safety, parenting, personal care and health. ILSP holds group classes and workshops as well as one-on-one assistance. The program also integrates with other community partners that house and assist the State’s foster care children. Participants enrolled in the program must be referred by the State.
