New AmeriCorps Program Helps Returning Citizens & Low-Income Seniors

Published on October 6, 2016

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans is pleased to announce a new AmeriCorps program supported by a grant from the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in the office of the Lieutenant Governor. Catholic Charities AmeriCorps members are serving in the Food for Families/Food for Seniors program and helping deliver monthly food boxes packaged from USDA supplied food to low-income older adults in Orleans Parish.

While performing this important service, the AmeriCorps members, who were recruited from unemployed individuals who were also previously incarcerated, will receive a modest living allowance, workforce development services to help them find permanent employment and an educational award.

We are excited that this one AmeriCorps program will be helping both returning citizens and low-income older adults in Orleans Parish!
