Housing & Homelessness Services
Housing:
Ciara Independent Living
The Ciara Independent Living program provides stable, safe, and stigma-free housing to the mentally ill, some disabled and recently incarcerated re-entering society by giving them a sense of community and a path to self-sufficiency. Residents pay a modest rent, provide their own meals, and can live relatively independently. Ciara Independent Living has 34 residents, and their length of stay is on a transitional basis which varies depending on their individual needs and goals. Currently, the program has two locations in New Orleans and Metairie.
Program participants are referred to CCANO from case managers, hospitals, the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI), Beacon Behavioral, and Probation and Parole. Ciara Independent Housing provides case management, monthly Second Harvest Food Bank, and a community of support and care. The case managers provide help with home management, budgeting, doctor visits, employment assistance, medication management, application assistance, behavioral health services, and make home visits to ensure that each client is safe and stable.
