On January 21, 2016, the St. Elizabeth’s Guild held a Mardi Gras meeting at the Plimsoll Club, located on the 11th floor of the Westin Hotel. Dressed in their best purple, green and gold attire, the Guild members listened to stories from Arthur Hardy, the world’s foremost authority on Mardi Gras, while they snacked on king cake. The Guild welcomed a handful of new members, in addition to updating current members on financial matters and upcoming activities.

The members of St. Elizabeth’s Guild also presented checks representing their 2015 donations to Independent Living Skills Program, St. John the Baptist Head Start, and Padua. The Guild members were able to donate $99,250 in total! ILSP received $34,250, which will be used for a variety of things including starter kits for children aging out of the foster care system, laptops, conferences, and general maintenance. St. John the Baptist Head Start received $25,000, which will be used to purchase a Mallory Play System, cots, and a portion of a new fence. Padua received $40,000, which will be used to purchase a new bus needed to transport clients who are wheelchair bound.

St. Elizabeth’s Guild has been an immensely generous donor to these three programs and has been able to fund many projects over the years. Cindy Wooderson, president of the St. Elizabeth’s Guild, said, “St. Elizabeth’s Guild’s support of the children’s programs of Catholic Charities is sustained by our member’s desire to have a positive impact on the community. Helping others by sharing our time, talents and treasures adds meaning to our lives as members of the Guild. Hands on events such as the Head Start Mardi Gras Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, ILSP Conference and Promotion Ceremony also give members the opportunity to engage with the staff and students and have that positive impact.”
