After School Assembly
Tutors/Mentors: Provide tutoring and educational outlets for children from kindergarten to 8th grade after school from 3 PM – 5:30 PM during the fall and spring. The program will take place at various inner city community centers.
Head Start Centers
Children’s Activities Assistants: Teach language, music, play, interact, and supervise children, ages 3-5. Monday-Friday, during school hours.
Incarnate Word Adult Education Center
Computer Literacy: To teach basic computer literacy classes on Friday mornings in the Carrollton area of New Orleans.
Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP)
Hope Chest Helpers: Sort and log in donations; Monday – Friday, 9 AM –5 PM, 3 to 4 hour shifts.
Tutors/Mentors: Tutor high school students in a variety of subjects. Monday-Friday evenings.
Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center
Homework Assistance: To assist children with school work on Saturdays from 10 AM – 2 PM.

Homework Assistance: Assist children with school work from 4 PM – 7 PM Monday and Wednesday.
Dinner Volunteer: Serve, prepare, or provide dinner to a group of approximately 40 clients and their children on Monday and Wednesday nights.
Project SAVE (Stopping Abuse through Victim Empowerment)
Law Student Volunteers: Current law students needed to assist lawyers in legal proceedings.

Parish Social Ministry
For those looking to begin or expand social ministries within their Catholic parish. The Office of Justice and Peace can work with your parish leadership to develop a comprehensive vision of parish social ministry, including, but not limited to: Catholic Social Teaching education through the JustFaith program, community organizing through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, direct service opportunities through Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul, legislative advocacy, and global solidarity activities through Catholic Relief Services.
JustFaith Facilitators
Adult volunteers needed to facilitate the 2011-2012 JustFaith program. JustFaith seeks to form a community based in prayer that nourishes each participant on their journey of faith that does justice. Throughout the sessions, the group reads books, watches videos, and hears from speakers that highlight Catholic Social Teaching. Facilitators commit to 30 weekly sessions, beginning September 2011. No experience or theological training necessary.

ACCESS Pregnancy and Referral Centers
Clerical: To assist with the functions of office – update client resources, write thank you notes for fundraiser, mail merge, stuff baby bottles, copy forms and assemble packets. Computer skills are necessary. Volunteer will assist and interact with staff and will have no client contact. Four hours per week as needed.

Hispanic Apostolate Community Services
English as a Second Language Program: Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to teach English as a Second Language classes to non-native English speakers in the Greater New Orleans area.
Classes will begin every September and January. There are morning sessions from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and evening sessions from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM.
Positions are available throughout the Greater New Orleans Area.
It is not required that you speak any language other than English.

Tutoring: After school tutoring center based out of Bonnabel High School in Kenner needs volunteers to help tutor elementary and middle school level students. Volunteers will help a diverse group of learners alongside other enthusiastic staff and volunteers. Bilingual a plus, though not required. Looking for volunteers willing to commit at least one afternoon per week.
The Rebuild Center at St. Joseph Church: Work in the rewarding and fun environment of the Rebuild Center, a state of the art facility in New Orleans serving needy and displaced residents. Seeking a volunteer to assist Catholic Charities’ case manager with administrative duties on site. Bilingual a plus but not required. Computer efficiency a plus.
Housing Counseling: This program offering financial counseling to new home buyers and those at risk of losing a home, needs a volunteer to support the staff at the office in the CBD. Anytime between 9:00 – 5:00 Monday – Friday. Bilingual not required. Computer efficiency a plus.
Immigration and Refugee Services Metairie Office: Volunteers are needed to assist the Program Director in the following areas: returning phone calls and scheduling appointments (bilingual required); organizing and creating files. Assistance is welcome anytime Monday through Friday, from 9:00 – 5:00.
Workers’ Rights: Seeking quality support at weekly Wage Claim Clinic. Volunteers work directly with the community, and should be sensitive to the privacy of others. Duties include conducting intake for workers who were not paid or underpaid. Proficiency in Spanish required.
Latino Health Access Network: Volunteer needed to help clients connect to vital services like food stamps and medicaid. Assistance in returning phone calls, conducting client intake, scheduling appointments, and help with filing as needed. Profeciency in Spanish required.
Clerical Support-Metairie Office: Serve the community and practice Spanish skills by providing clerical/support assistance Monday – Wednesday, answering phones, directing walk-in clients, and making copies.
Job Services-Metairie Office: Duties include searching for potential employers online or in the community. English is the only language required. A second volunteer position requires Spanish proficiency to to assist clients seeking employment.

Adult Day Health Care Centers & PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly)
Musical/Art/Entertaining: Sing, play music or teach basic art to seniors. Piano players are especially needed.
Companion & Bingo: Sit, talk, listen, and read to clients. Help with Bingo.
Painting/Cleaning: Sweep, clean, and paint facilities as needed.
Adult Literacy-PACE: To teach basic reading skills to one or two participants. Mon-Friday anyday between 10am-12pm or 1-2pm.
Foster Grandparents
Limited income seniors age 60 and over are needed to serve as caregivers, mentors and tutors for children with exceptional needs. Foster Grandparents receive a stipend, assistance with cost of transportation, meals during service time and other benefits. Also need volunteer speakers to provide information to Foster Grandparents on Nutrition, Finance and other informative topics.
