Volunteer Opportunities
A. Field Positions
1. Home Inspectors - With training, inspectors will complete preliminary home inspection. Some familiarity of home remodeling and tools, helpful. Good observation skills needed. Flexible schedule.
This task can be accomplished on volunteer's own time.
2. Work Site Leaders - Volunteers with home maintenance, repair and/or remodeling needed to supervise "unskilled" volunteers gutting houses. Good leadership needed to train groups in using tools and safety. Volunteers needed in the morning, especially early in the week. Half-day or full-day assignment.
3. Tool Teams - Volunteers may work alone or in pairs to pick up and/or deliver tools to/from work sites. Volunteers will also organize and maintain tools, and conduct inventory. Truck, van or large car helpful. Flexible schedule.
B. Hospitality
1. Meeters/Greeters - Volunteers will give a warm welcome to groups usually arriving on Sunday afternoons and evenings. Volunteers will be trained to present a brief history of Catholic Charities and overview of the agency. Time commitment varies, up to one hour.
2. Kitchen Helpers - Volunteers are needed to assist staff in the kitchen on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Individual volunteers will help prepare meals for visiting volunteer groups as well as elderly residents living in the Wynhoven Apartments in Marrero.
C. Office Support
1. Phone/Clerical Assistants - Volunteers needed on a daily basis to return calls to homeowners in need of assistance. This can be a true ministry who volunteers who are caring listeners. Volunteers can also confirm other volunteer participation with a friendly reminder and/or help with data entry. Flexible schedule within business hours.
