Ms. M, a single mother of five children, came to the Head Start program at Incarnate Word unemployed and homeless. Her two older children were already enrolled in the public school system and getting her three younger children into the Head Start program would be the start of moving her family towards self-sufficiency. One of the children was able to enroll early when an opening became available in the program before the term ended. The Family Service Worker at the Head Start center immediately began working closely with Ms. M, helping her access online resources,write a resume and hone her interviewing skills. With the availability of the Head Start program’s services and the Family Service Worker’s help, Ms. M was able to obtain both housing and employment.The Family Service Worker continued to provide the support Ms. M and her family needed to continue moving forward.
