Walmart Foundation Grant Brings Technology to Food for Families/Food for Seniors

Food for Families/Food for Seniors was recently awarded a $35,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation! The funds were used to purchase five Motion Rugged Tablets and eight Panasonic Toughbook Tablets.

Distribution centers in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas were already using this technology and reaping the benefits of the speed and ease they bring to the distribution process. This grant helped extend the benefits to the northern portion of Louisiana, including the Delhi and Shreveport areas.

The distribution center at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, which is manned by volunteers from the West Monroe Senior Center and the Ouachita Correctional Center Trustees, had the chance to try the new tablets, and they were not disappointed! This outdoor drive-through site distributes approximately 1,000 food boxes every two months.

With a new cloud-based system under development, these new tablets are much-needed and will play a crucial role at our Food for Families/Food for Seniors distribution sites. Thank you, Walmart!
