Today, Archbishop Gregory Aymond announced his appointment of Marianite Sister Marjorie Hebert as President and CEO of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans effective immediately.  Sr. Marjorie has held the position on an interim basis since January of this year.

“I remain grateful to Sr. Marjorie for accepting this responsibility and to the Marianites of the Holy Cross for their support of her ministry,” said Archbishop Aymond.  “Sr. Marjorie comes to us with much administrative experience in education, health care and community and building and that experience has been and will continue to be a blessing to Catholic Charities and the entire archdiocese.”

“Serving in this position will give me the opportunity to work with and assist God’s people, and I look forward to that opportunity,” said Sr. Marjorie.  “While very challenging, I know I will find great fulfillment in answering the Lord’s call to me.”

Sr. Marjorie is a native to New Orleans having attended Holy Name of Mary School and Our Lady of Holy Cross College where she received a Bachelors degree in Education.  She received a Masters in Education from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas and holds an Honorary Doctorate – Humane Services, Honoris Causa from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.

Sr. Marjorie joined Catholic Charities after serving three years as Vice President for Finances and Operations and Associate to the President for Ministry at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in Algiers.  She is also responsible for the developing the idea and establishing Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center, which she led from its opening in 1997 through 2008.  Prior to leading Our Lady of Wisdom she served in leadership of the Marianites of the Holy Cross Congregation and as both a teacher and administrator in Catholic schools.  Her community outreach work includes serving as a member and chair of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, as a member and chair of the board of Lindy’s Place, a nonprofit program serving homeless women, as a member of the Board of Regents of Our Lady of Holy Cross College and as a Eucharistic Minister and Volunteer at Ochsner Hospital Westbank Campus.
