Catholic Charities’ English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and Citizenship classes serve hundreds of students who want to learn English each year as well as those who are preparing to take the U.S. Citizenship Test. Class registration dates, class sites and class times for the Spring semester are now available.

Today, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation (BRAF) announced that a Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans-led collaborative would receive $15 million for ongoing oil spill relief in coastal Louisiana communities. Catholic Charities and collaborators will provide case management services, including job training, English as a Second Language classes, financial education and counseling to families that have yet to return to sustainable fishing or have yet to receive their claims payments from BP.

Registration for our fall English as a Second Language (ESL) and Citizenship classes begins August 15. Classes begin September 6 and will be held at various locations across the metro area and have been lined up to accommodate varied schedules. Our Summer Witness summer day camp program began today at our Hispanic Counseling and Tutoring Center in Metairie for ESL elementary and middle school students.

In honor of the first day, and as a welcome to our campers, everyone planted a painted hand in the color of his or her choice on our summer tree wall.
