Volunteer Hunter Scheller of Helping Hands Construction lends a hand in gutting a Hurricane Isaac damaged house in LaPlace

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans’ Operation Helping Hands (OHH) is back in action to respond to Hurricane Isaac.  After Hurricane Katrina, OHH volunteers gutted almost 2000 homes,  rebuilt 211 homes and repainted 413.  Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO) coordinated 30,000 volunteers over a 6 year period, who contributed 850,184 volunteer hours!  We recently wrapped up our Katrina efforts and now our focus turns to Hurricane Isaac work.

After about 2 weeks of being up and running, OHH teams have gutted 13 homes in LaPlace and 2 in Braithewaite thanks to collaboration with our Community Staffing Services and Cornerstone Builders. With 59,000 homes damaged and/or flooding by Isaac, we know that there is extensive work to be done. Sign up for both volunteers and homeowners needing assistance is currently underway. If you or you know someone in need of house gutting due to Isaac, please contact our Care Line at 866-891-2210. If you are interested in volunteering for projects like OHH, please click here to sign up! Currently we are seeking volunteers ages 18 and up to assist with OHH.
