Open Shelters for Homeless During Winter Storm

The New Orleans freeze plan is once again in effect for the impending severe winter weather expected from Tuesday, January 28-Wendesday January 29. The following is a list of locations for people seeking shelter:

Persons needing shelter will be accepted at the following locations under the following conditions:

  • The Salvation Army, 4530 South Claiborne Avenue – accepts families, males and females
  • Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp Street – accepts males only
  • Covenant House, 611 North Rampart Street – accepts males and females between the ages 16-21, their dependent children, and any female with dependent minor children. Mothers with small children may come anytime.
  • New Orleans Mission, 1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. – only accepts male or female adults

For transportation to shelters, call NOPD Homeless Assistance Collaborative (504) 821-2222. This is a free service, and will begin at 9am on Tuesday, January 28 and continue through 2am on Wednesday, January 29.

A warming shelter will be open Tuesday through Thursday in Slidell due to the imminent threat of severe winter weather, St. Tammany Parish government announced. The shelter will be located at the John Slidell Park gymnasium at 105 Robert Blvd. The shelter will be open from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Thursday.
