The Advocate Highlights Monthly Peace Prayer Walks

It was a walk and a prayer for people from all parts of the city who came to go through the eastern New Orleans neighborhood surrounding St. Maria Goretti Church in New Orleans, La. Tuesday Aug. 2, 2016. It was part of peace and prayer walks started in 2014 in response to Pope Francis’ worldwide call to get congregations to pray, move beyond the walls and into the neighborhoods to pray for peace.

The walk was hosted by St. Maria Goretti. The walk is rotated to different Catholic Church parishes for hosting each month. The idea is to journey streets every month in neighborhoods where violence continues to be present. The walks happen the last Tuesday of every month. This walk was postponed in July due to rain and was delayed a week.
