Operation Helping Hands Mission Statement
The goal of Operation Helping Hands is to provide safe, secure and functional housing as efficiently and affordably as possible.  By providing families with the assistance necessary to return them to homeownership and/or affordable rental property, we are able to improve the quality of life in New Orleans.

Since November 2005, Operation Helping Hands has brought more than 25,000 volunteers to gut and rebuild homes devastated in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Operation Helping Hands volunteers have gutted nearly 2,000 homes and apartments for elderly and disabled New Orleanians. We are now rebuilding homes of those most in need and painting home exteriors.

People
Operation Helping Hands depends on the efforts of staff, long term volunteers and short term volunteers.

Our staff includes homeowner advocates, a volunteer coordination team, and project managers for construction, weatherization, painting and materials acquisition.

Our long term volunteers are an energetic group of devoted volunteers who oversee construction and manage Operation Helping Hands volunteers rebuild a homeparticular projects. Long term volunteers work with Operation Helping Hands for up to one year. If you’re interested in becoming a long term volunteer with us for commitment of 3 months to 1 year, please email Bethany or call (504) 210-7538.

Our short term volunteers visit between a few days and a few weeks. Church groups, corporate groups or universities will assemble teams and come down together to help rebuild homes. Without their enthusiasm, generosity and labor, we could not rebuild hundreds of homes.
