News Release: Chef John Besh partners with Cafe Hope for holiday fundraiser

(New Orleans, La.) – On Friday, December 9, 2011, the iconic grounds of the Hope Haven campus in Marrero will be the setting for My Family Table at Café Hope for the Holidays featuring cuisine from renowned local chef John Besh. The festive holiday gathering will benefit Catholic Charities’ Café Hope and The John Besh Foundation.

                Chef Besh and a team of chefs from Restaurant August, Lüke, The American Sector, Borgne, La Provence and Domenica will prepare and serve dinner for the event. Premium wine and spirits will accompany the meal. All guests will receive an autographed copy of Chef Besh’s new book, My Family Table.

                Founded in 2010, Café Hope is an affiliated ministry of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, located on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish. A fully functioning restaurant, Café Hope serves at-risk youth residing in Jefferson, Orleans or Plaquemines Parishes ages 17 to 21. Students train for jobs in the restaurant and hospitality industry, receive intensive life skills coaching and are paired with a mentor.

                The newly-established John Besh Foundation provides scholarships, grants and loans to individuals in the New Orleans area with the passion, creativity and knowledge to enact change in New Orleans and Louisiana. Chef Besh created The John Besh Foundation in order to better serve his community by bringing a focus to his efforts in New Orleans.

                The Louisiana Restaurant Association-Greater New Orleans Chapter is the presenting sponsor of the event. Jim Besselman, who serves on the board of both the LRA and Café Hope said, “It is critically important for our industry to support Café Hope. Not only does it provide a pipeline for well-trained restaurant workers, it gives at-risk kids a chance at a good job and a good life.”

                Tickets start at $150 per person. Patron-level tickets are $250 per person and include a special patron party at 6:30 p.m. with Chef Besh.
