SERVE Internship Program
Students Engaging in Reflective Volunteer Experiences (SERVE) seeks students for summer, fall and spring internship placements. Several internships are available with specific programs. Interns are encouraged to submit a resume along with their application. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the Catholic Charities program with which they are interning of the requirements set by their college or university to ensure supervisory standards are met.

ACCESS Pregnancy and Referral Centers - Client Advocate Intern: The intern will work directly with clients, providing education about pregnancy related information, abortion alternatives and community resources. A minimum of forty hours of training is required. This internship is ideal for someone with the following qualifications:
-- Must be comfortable with pro-life and Catholic values
-- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
-- Knowledge of Spanish is a plus

Café Hope - Program Support Intern: Located on the historic Hope Haven campus, Café Hope is a fully functioning restaurant, which trains at-risk youth in job skills and life skills. Café Hope will facilitate a path to self-sufficiency by offering job-readiness and job placement. Interns are needed to offer support and to help get the program off the ground.

Café Hope - Communications/Marketing Intern: The intern will help to increase Café Hope’s presence online by utilizing online marketing and communication. Knowledge of social networking is a plus.

Café Hope - Life Skills and Mentoring Program Intern: An intern is needed to help build and to implement the Life Skills Program and the Mentoring Program. Through this internship, the intern will learn about the inner functions of non-profits as well as about group processes and how they can be applied to helping at-risk youth.
Community Center Interns: Interns needed to assist with event planning, fundraising and grant research. Outreach to community members in the form of surveying or focus groups would also be possible. Additionally, the sites have programs in areas such as adult literacy, tutoring, and food bank programs. Interns may have the opportunity to provide program support and assist in implementation.
Counseling Solutions Business Intern: Counseling Solutions is looking to attract new clients and expand its target population to include both insured and uninsured clients throughout New Orleans. We are in need of an intern with business skills who would assist us in this outreach effort. Work may be available to assist in writing our Policies & Procedures Manual, depending on intern interest.
Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP) - Life Skills Interns: Persons needed to assess clients; assist with class discussion, presentation, and preparation of class materials; do make-up work individually with clients; assist in activities/games; attend special meetings and/or trainings. Undergraduate students welcomed. Monday-Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Planning and Evaluation Intern: Intern needed to assist with web-based ClientTrack program. Intern will gain experience working with fiscal data, doing dollar cost analyses, and developing business plans. Student should have a basic understanding of databases.
Project SAVE (Stopping Abuse through Victim Empowerment) - Law Student Interns: Current law students needed to assist lawyers in legal proceedings. College Junior/Senior internship positions are also available: Students must be mature and committed in their interest in domestic violence.

Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center - Marketing Intern: The intern will develop and implement a plan for marketing Sojourner Truth’s services by helping with branding, creating flyers and brochures, and spreading the word about the many services offered by the center. This internship is ideal for someone with the following qualifications:

Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center - Nutrition and Exercise Intern: An intern is needed to plan, implement, and lead movement and exercise classes. This internship is ideal for someone with the following qualifications:
-- Experience in and knowledge of health, physical education, or kinesiology
-- Self-motivation and ability to work independently
-- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
St. John Alternative Staffing Business Intern: St. John Community Center is in the process of launching an Alternative Staffing Organization (ASO). ASOs function primarily as for-profit temp agencies, but also provide case management and counseling support to their clients. ASOs serve a broad base of low-income job seekers with obstacles to employment. People with disabilities, ex-offenders and homeless individuals are major target populations. Established ASOs cover at least 75% of their program expenses with fee revenues, and some generate an operating surplus. Earning fees from employers for worker recruitment, screening and retention services makes ASOs more cost-effective than traditional nonprofit job placement programs and less reliant on government funding and charitable support. The ASO internship position is ideal for someone interested in social entrepreneurship and bridging the gap between the business and non-profit sectors.
