Cycling for Change: Reducing Poverty One Mile at a Time
with Fr. Matthew Ruhl, SJ
Gathering at 6:00 PM; speaker at 6:30 PM, at The Balcony Bar, 1104 Harmony Street, corner of Magazine Street, in Uptown New Orleans
Inspired after learning about the Catholic Charities USA Campaign to Reduce Poverty, Fr. Matthew Ruhl, S.J. decided to combine his passion for the poor with his passion for cycling. Thus, Cycling for Change was born. From Memorial Day to Labor Day 2010, the Cycling for Change (C4C) team will span more than 5000 miles across the nation through rural towns and metropolitan cities. More important than the mileage, is the call to action the cyclists will pose – to reduce poverty in our local communities and beyond.
All along the route the riders will promote the Campaign to Reduce Poverty by calling for communities, individuals, governments and social service providers to make a collaborative effort to address the root causes of poverty. Fr. Matt will speak to this call at a special theology on tap on Thursday, August 12. To learn more about the Campaign to Reduce Poverty visit www.catholiccharitiesusa.org.
