Volunteer Spotlight: Frank Reeves

Published on April 14, 2016

Frank Reeves has been volunteering with our English as a Second Language (ESL) classes since the program began at the Church of Christ a few years ago.  He works as an assistant instructor, checking homework, explaining concepts to individual students, and providing encouragement and support.  This semester, Reeves works approximately eight hours a week with a group of six students, but the number of students varies by semester, he says.

Reeves’ favorite part of the job is helping people through the learning process. “It’s not just a side gig for the students,” he explains “it really helps them in their line of work and to become a part of the community.”  Some of his former students have even gone on to attend college here in the United States.

We salute you for the important work that you do for our community, Mr. Reeves!

English as a Second Language (ESL) and Citizenship classes serve hundreds of adult learners each year at sites throughout Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany parishes. Both morning and evening classes are offered in order to accommodate our students’ work schedules. Our ESL and Citizenship classes provide a key component for integrating into the American society for both immigrants who have recently arrived and those who have been in this country for several years.

All of our instructors and tutors are volunteers! We are always looking for new volunteers to help our adult learners. Sign up here!
